Search for the Top 100 Teen Titles

Inspired (I'm guessing) by Betsy Bird's "Top 100" polls for picture books and chapter books, Diane Chen, blogger at SLJ's Practically Paradise blog has announced the "Search for the Top 100 Teen Titles."

Anyone can submit their favorites, and they can be fiction AND nonfiction! All you need to do is send your ranked list (#1 = 10 points, #10 = 1 point) to DianeRChen@gmail.com by February 14th OR complete the Google form. Titles will be ranked according to the number of points received. Full details are at the Practically Paradise blog.

Just a few days ago, while finalizing my Top 10 fictional chapter books for Betsy's poll I thought "Gee, I wish there was someone cool enough in the YA circle to do a poll for teen books." I would have done it myself, but let's be honest about the extent of my readership and thus the accuracy of any poll I'd host. So, I'm eternally grateful to Practically Paradise for taking this on!

Now, of course, I must consider what titles to put on MY list. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Speak, The Hunger Games, and The Outsiders all deserve a place, but in what order? And what else should be on my list?

I can't wait to see the results.

What titles will you be voting for?

  1. I don't know whether to be glad or afraid of that February 14 deadline. It gives us a lot of time to come up with our respective lists, but it also means more time to agonize over our choices.

I'm definitely putting Jellicoe Road on my list (at #1, of course!), Weetzie Bat, and Megan Whalen Turner, though I can't decide on The Thief, The King of Attolia, or both. After that, I don't know. Honey, Baby, Sweetheart? Sloppy Firsts? Sabriel? Ooh, Sabriel definitely makes my list. I think. I'm pretty sure, anyway...
