Alicia’s Total = 28

Kind of embarrassing, I suppose. Of course, there are at least 50-75 YA titles that I’ve read but aren’t on the list. Plus, I’ve only really been reading YA for the past year. So I guess it’s not so bad after all. There are definitely a lot of *s on the list. There is only so much time!

What titles would I add to the list?

Go Ask Alice/Anonymous (I hated it too, but it's quintessential YA)
Boy Toy/Barry Lyga
The Chocolate War/Robert Cormier
Pride and Prejudice/Jane Austen
Lovely Bones/Alice Siebold
Life of Pi/Yann Martel
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time/Mark Haddon

  1. I had to read the top blurb twice to pick up on the distinction between "YA books" and "books that should be read by YAs."

(I changed the category that Inexcusable was in, so it's not on the syllabus anymore. But you might want to try Invisible by Pete Hautman. I think it does one component of what Inexcusable tries to do, but better.)

  2. You haven't read Hitchhiker's Guide....Really? That's one of my favorite books of all time and I think everyone should read it.

  3. I know, I know! It's one of my husband's favorites (and one of the few on the list that he's read) and he was quite upset that I hadn't read it. I have seen the movie, but I know that doesn't count.
