It's not that I haven't been reading. Quite the contrary! I've been reading so much in an effort to read each and every Cybils nominee, that posting about what I've been reading has become a challenge. And yet, I'm going to take a moment now to think about Christmas break, and what I should read then - AFTER all this Cybils reading.
I'm thinking some YA fiction is in order, and I've got plenty just piled up and waiting to be read.
Thus the question becomes not "What to read?" but rather, "What should I read first?" or "What MUST I read before the end of 2009?" Here are the options:
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia
Going Bovine by Libba Bray
The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One
and The Ask and the Answer: Chaos Walking: Book Two by Patrick Ness
and The Ask and the Answer: Chaos Walking: Book Two by Patrick Ness
Splendor: A Luxe Novel (The Luxe) by Anna Godberson
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
Ash by Melinda Lo
Candor by Pam Bachorz
After by Amy Efaw
Because I am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas
The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1) by Rick Riordan
...or maybe something that I haven't even remembered to put on this list because I've been so focused on nonfiction for the past few months. I know I've missed some titles that should be on the list.
Suggestions, please!

Hmmm... Might I suggest The Lightning Thief if you've never read it due to the upcoming movie opening being so soon.
ReplyDeletePercy Jackson!
ReplyDeleteIt's a movie that hasn't been released yet, so you might as well read the book before you go and watch the movie (if you do). :)
So sorry for the delay in posting your comments! Something is wonky with my blog and it wasn't telling me that anyone had commented. Since all the Percy Jackson books were checked out (my fault, since I assigned the 8th graders to read retellings and extensions of classic stories!), I went with The Knife of Never Letting Go. I'm almost 200 pages in and it's GOOD!
