The long-awaited day finally arrived and the SLJ Battle of the Kids' Books began with a bang. Round 1, Match 1 brought us a match that built the titles up, and then brought one down. In just a few short paragraphs, judge Kenneth Oppel lavished praise upon Palacio's Wonder and Sheinkin's Bomb. And then, well, he dropped the bomb on Wonder.
Sorry Wonder. I really liked you. You had a great message that was delivered without being heavy-handed. And even though I might have held against you the dual/multiple narrator thing (which I think is way overused), it actually worked for you. Really well.
